Microsoft Excel - Tip # 2: Freeze Columns and Rows (View Headings While Scrolling)

When viewing / editing large spreadsheets, it is possible to 'freeze' row and column headings, so that when scrolling horizontally or vertically headings can still be viewed. This means data can be easily associated with the correct heading(s).

There are several methods to achieve this, however, to quickly 'freeze' top row(s) and/or left column(s), click on the cell which is directly underneath the row(s) to freeze and immediatley to the right of the column(s) to freeze. In the example below, this is cell B4. Select the WINDOW menu, then select FREEZE PANES.

View headings while scrolling.
