Microsoft Word - Tip # 2: Moving Around a Document

  • To Move to the Last Editing Point Within a Document:
Press SHIFT + F5 repeatedly until the required location is displayed (toggles between last three locations). This key sequence can be used when you first open a document - moves to the editing position before the last save.
  • 'Select Browse Object' Button:
This button is on the right hand side of the MS Word screen - at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar:
'Select Browse Object' button in MS Word
The Browse Object defaults to one page, but this can be changed to other 'object' types, e.g. field, footnote, comment, section, edits (as above - i.e. click on the 'Select Browse Object' button, then click on the required object type). To move to the next/previous object (i.e. field, footnote, comment, page, etc), click on the double up or down arrows (above or below the 'Select Browse Object' button).
  • Keyboard Shortcuts Used to Move Around a Document:
An easy way to move around a document is either using the vertical or horizontal scroll bars and/or clicking with the mouse. The following short-cut keys can also be used, and are very useful for typists/ word processing operators:
